Life Lessons Courtesy of a Disney Vacation

Sure, we all know that a Disney Vacation can bring us endless fun. However, there’s nothing like a vacation to teach us some truly important life lessons.
1. Patience – all little Joey wants to do is ride on Toy Story Mania. However your fast passes were for The Little Mermaid and Frozen Sing a Long. Your patience will be tested. Good luck!

What is he doing?

2. Everyone is different – unfortunately sometimes that means that everyone wants to do something different at the same time. Which brings us to…
image

3. Compromise – this is a skill as the group gets larger. The job is to make everyone in your group think they are getting what they want.My poor niece Courtney has suffered through many many trips on and has learned all the words to Journey into Imagination with Figment!
4. Too much of a good thing is sometimes just too much – this lesson will be learned at the buffets. Don’t worry, you’ll be walking this all off!

5. Tantrum O:Clock is real – I personally witness this every weekend at WDW. It’s usually around 3-4pm. It’s usually children (but not always). It’s always best to avoid eye contact. The only real cure is a time out for everyone. This is why you should always plan for downtime.

6. it’s a small world – the song will get stuck in your head. There’s no escaping it.

How To Come Out: Revealing Your Disney Addiction

Pointers on revealing your Disney addiction
image

When?
You don’t want to rush this news. Ease into it. Don’t hide your Mickey watch or Figment lanyard but maybe leave the sparkly ears for the parks.
When I started my new job I was able to hold off giving park advice for a solid 2 weeks. It wasn’t easy.

How?
In casual Friday conversations, when everyone is talking about the upcoming weekend, mention that you are checking out a new restaurant or fireworks. Try not to use abreviations like MDE, ADR or MNSSHP. The un-Disney people will just give you blank stares.
Why?

You shouldn’t have to hold in your love of Sonny Eclipse or stop humming it’s a small world. Be you, even if it means you are dubbed the resident Disney freak. Don’t make excuses for spending more time with your main Mouse. Enjoy the magic, cry during Wishes and get a FP+ for Test track!
Enjoy!

Saying Goodbye to Streets of America

Saying Goodbye to Streets of America

We’ve had some good times over the years. We’ve laughed and we cried. We spent holidays together and eaten candied almonds. We’ve jammed out on you and danced in the snow.
image

When MGM Studios opened in 1989, you were part of the Backlot tour. You only represented New York back then.

I accept the change and know that it is going to be so exciting! One of the things that makes Disney so wonderful is that it’s always evolving. Let’s just take a minute and look back at some wonderful memories of the streets of America:
1. The (original) Backlot Tour – riding in a tram, you would loop around and spot a New York City street scene, complete with subway sounds. The real treat was when you turned the corner and realized the buildings were just facades.

2. Mulch, Sweat and Shears – for over 11 years, the bandscaping company rocked out on the streets. People grew up listening to them. When they left Hollywood Studios , they left a real hole behind.
image

3. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights – we were awed for 20 years with the music and blinking Christmas display. When it would start snowing on the street, faces just lit up as bright as the displays!

Also going away:
Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground – my kids spent many happy hours within the giant blades of grass.
image

Lights, Motors, Action – the wild driving and explosions were totally thrilling!

In the next few years will be enjoying Star Wars land and Pixar land but we’ll be able to look back at our old friends.

Enjoy!
